Dr. Richard Peet has been a practicing attorney since 1991 with a focus on sophisticated intellectual property law issues for companies and universities working in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.

 

He is a graduate of Haverford College (B.S. 1976), University of California, Berkeley (Molecular Biology – Plant Pathology 1986), and Columbia School of Law at Catholic University (1991). Prior to starting his legal career, Dr. Peet was a research scientist at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Zoecon Corporation in Palo Alto, CA.

 

He was a partner at the law firm of Foley & Lardner, LLP where he practiced law for 23 years. He was Chair of Foley’s Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice Group from 2000 to 2006 and helped guide Foley & Lardner to become a leading law firm in the field of intellectual property law. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Chair of the Foley’s International Business Team assisting in the growth of the firm. At Foley, Dr. Peet represented leading corporations and universities on patent procurement, patent enforcement, licensing and mergers & acquisition matters. Clients included Amgen, Genentech, Chiron, Novartis, Unilever, Pioneer Hi-Bred, Intl, 2
Keygene, Plant Sciences, J.R. Simplot Company, Rockefeller University, and Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Peet retired from Foley to develop and commercialize technologies in the fields of sustainable production of natural products, using enzymes, including prebiotics to improve the microbiome for improved health outcomes. He is the Founder and Director of Formulate Bioscience, Inc. and has developed patented technologies for the enzymatic production of terpenes and oligosaccharide prebiotics as well as new prebiotic-containing foods and nutraceuticals.

 

He founded Peet & Associates to continue to provide intellectual property law legal services to biotech and pharma companies.
Dr. Richard Peet is a member in good standing at the bars of Pennsylvania (admitted 1991) and District of Columbia (1991).
